Medical Examiner IDs Diamond Head Incident Victim

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office on Friday said it has positively identified the remains of Lois Ann Cain, 77, who was killed in Sunday’s shooting and fire incident in the Diamond Head area.

The release of the information comes after notification was made to next of kin.

“The cause and manner of death are pending further investigation,” according to a press release from the city.

Honolulu police and emergency personnel Sunday morning responded in force to the shooting and fire incident on Hibiscus Road. The name of one victim was announced Friday.

The Medical Examiner’s Office confirms two sets of remains were found.

The second set has been positively identified, too, but an announcement is pending family notification.

Two Honolulu police officers were fatally shot in the incident Sunday morning.

The suspect, 69-year-old Jerry Hanel, is believed to have caused fires that destroyed several houses in the neighborhood.

Hanel is unaccounted for, but it is speculated that he perished in the fire.
