Honolulu City Council Interim Chair Ann Kobayashi announced Tuesday that the council is seeking a new city auditor.
Edwin Young, the second person to hold the job since it was created, has served since April 2010. Young retired in February.

“This is a critical position within the City and County of Honolulu,” Kobayashi said in a press release. “Because (the auditor) has the authority and expertise to thoroughly investigate the fiscal activities and performance of any city agency or activity, which is essential to good decision-making on expenditures.”
The auditor’s main duties include financial audits of the city and performance audits of funds programs and operations as requested by agencies or the city.
The council says it plans to have the position filled by June. Inquiries are due by April 29.
