(AP) — A Honolulu police lieutenant indicted in a corruption case is asking for a separate trial.

Lt. Derek Hahn’s attorney filed a motion Wednesday saying the indictment against former chief Louis Kealoha, his deputy prosecutor wife and current and former officers alleges two separate schemes.

The motion says allegations that Katherine Kealoha bilked family members, banks and children whose trusts she controlled have nothing to do with Hahn and the other officers.

Derek Hahn, left, was charged with criminal conspiracy Wednesday in U.S. District Court. He's seen here with his attorney Birney Bervar.

They’re accused of helping the Kealohas frame a relative. All defendants pleaded not guilty.

The motion says it’s unfair to subject the non-Kealoha defendants to a trial on charges they have nothing to do with.

Earlier this week another defendant, retired police Maj. Gordon Shiraishi requested a separate trial because he’s only charged with one count of obstruction.
